Statistics roundup
AI visibility statistics: Australia 2026.
Every statistic on this page comes from one place: Answerable's 30 July 2026 scan of 300 search-visible Australian businesses across six industries, published in full as The State of AI Visibility in Australia 2026 with the raw data free to download under CC BY 4.0.
Overall
Overall AI visibility in Australia
- 38.3 out of 100 is the average AI visibility score across the 300 Australian businesses scanned, and the median is 36. Source
- 41% of the 137 businesses with complete records from both engines were never named once by ChatGPT or Gemini, across every question asked. Source
- 26% of those same 137 businesses are recognised by the engines when asked about directly, yet never named when a buyer asks who to use. Source
- 52.5 out of 100 is the average score of the 36 recognisable anchor brands in the sample, against 36.4 for everyone else. Source
By industry
AI visibility statistics by industry
Fifty businesses were scanned per industry. "Never named" is counted over each industry's businesses with complete records from both engines, because a blank Gemini row cannot be counted either way.
- 76% of the tradie businesses with complete two-engine records (21 of the 50 scanned) were never named by either engine, the worst result of the six industries. Source
- 9% of the e-commerce brands with complete two-engine records (22 of the 50 scanned) were never named, the best result of the six industries. Source
- 55 out of 100 is the mean AI visibility score for e-commerce, the highest of the six industries; tradies sit lowest at 29.8. Source
- 47% of the accountants with complete two-engine records (19 of the 50 scanned) were never named by either engine, the worst result outside the trades. Source
Websites and crawlers
Website and AI crawler statistics
Site checks are automated and were run on all 300 websites, so each figure below is counted over the full sample.
- 13% of the 300 businesses block AI crawlers outright in robots.txt, so the engines cannot read their websites at all. Source
- 24% of the 300 websites have no JSON-LD structured data, the machine-readable markup both engines can parse. Source
- 71% of the 300 websites have no llms.txt file; we report it as a legibility signal only, since Google has said it does not use llms.txt. Source
- 74.9 out of 100 is the average on-site AI readiness score, yet readiness barely tracks the per-engine visibility scores: Pearson r = 0.116 across the 137 complete two-engine records. Source
Engine differences
ChatGPT versus Gemini statistics
- 77% of the time, Gemini's visibility score for the same business was higher than ChatGPT's across the 137 complete two-engine records; ChatGPT's was higher just 5% of the time. Source
- 25.3 points is the average gap between Gemini's and ChatGPT's visibility scores for the same business, across those 137 records. Source
- 54% of all 300 businesses were never named by ChatGPT, and 48% of the 137 with a complete Gemini record were never named by Gemini. Source
